Engagement photos are something I've been putting off for, well, the entire 18 months we've been engaged. I adore our wedding photographer, so I know I should be so excited to take them, but I've been procrastinating for several reasons:
- I don't know what to do with my hair.
- I don't know what to do with my makeup.
- I don't know what to wear.
- I don't know what Fiance will wear.
- We haven't chosen a location.
But then, September hit and we're now almost 10 months away, and it dawned on me that we're totally running out of time. If we want to use our engagement photos for our save-the-dates (which we do), we need to take them, like, now. Or before winter, at least. Brrrr.
Hoping that the fall colors would make for a pretty backdrop, I finally scrambled together a date that works for us and for our photographer: Sunday, October 17.
But...I still don't know what to do with my hair or my makeup. I don't know what I am going to wear, nevertheless what Fiance will wear. And I have no idea where this photo shoot will take place. And now, I only have five weeks to figure it out. Yay.
Any advice on how to become photogenic in five weeks?

I think it can always been nerve wrecking when you know someone is going to take your photo and you have big plans for these photos. But I also think on the day of when you start getting into it and after taking a few photos you will have a blast. I actually love your hair and makeup in your profile pic if that helps any! And with the clothes I think dressy casual always looks nice and its a nice way to still feel like yourself without feeling too dressed up.
ReplyDeleteCant wait to see them...fall is a great time to take them! Good luck.
Sorry that was me up there I forgot to sign out of my husbands email! ;)
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I was a wreck about our e-photos for the same reasons! Then I decided that I'd rather we looked like ourselves than not, since we'd look so unlike ourselves on our wedding day (I don't normally prance around in white dresses with bustles and updo's :P). So we wore what we'd normally wear (jeans, button downs, etc since ours were in the winter) and I love them. Love them, love them, love them. Just look/be yourselves. :)
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you for the kind works D. Marie! You're making me feel a little better.
ReplyDeleteLayla, I agree! I want to look pretty (especially because of the $$ we're paying for photography!) but I want us to look like us. Thanks for the advice. I hope I love ours, too!
You'll be great! Your photographer will know what to do to make it extra special. Just think - an excuse to buy makeup and new clothes!
ReplyDeleteWe are in the exact same position. Bring cool props. A red umbrella, a pumpkin, some flowers.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I think the best thing to do is be yourself. Wear your favorite dress or pair of jeans, don't try to do anything crazy with your hair or makeup, and just go out into nature (October is perfect!) and have fun! Throw leaves, look up at the sky, wade into a stream...you'll figure it out.
ReplyDeleteDo what you would do normally. You don't want to look overdone in your engagement pictures. Just do your hair in a style you like and do your makeup the way you like it and there you go. I'm sure your e-pics are going to be amazing, especially with an Autumn background!
ReplyDeleteBe yourself!! You don't want to look at them years later and realize you weren't being yourself. :)
ReplyDeleteYay! I say wear something you LOVE.
ReplyDeleteAs for hair and makeup... keep it similar to whatyou do everyday. You're a gorgeous girl, and it would be best just to look like you!
Small world (or maybe fate?)... I clicked on just one blog on the WeddingBee boards that happened to be yours - I'm a Cincinnati bride planning a wedding also! Nice to e-meet you!

My advice is to stalk wedding photogs online and look at engagement pics so you can get an idea of the photos that speak to you (location, clothing, hair, makeup, etc.) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWear something that never will look dated and will always match your colour decorating scheme so that you can have that precious framed photo out and it won't clash!
ReplyDeleteAnd most importantly...remember to smile!
Be real. Be happy!

I freaked out and I shouldn't have. My best advice is to go through your closet, pick out an outfit and don't buy anything unless it's an accessory. Your hair and clothing should be close to what you would wear on a date with your fiance.
ReplyDeleteJust have fun! Enjoy the session and you'll look beautiful from your bridal glow :)
ReplyDeleteOh, just have fun!!! The most important thing is to just be yourself, that way you'll enjoy the time having the photographs taken. :)
ReplyDeleteYou haven't updated in a while. I hope all is well with you!
