Video Magic.

We've officially the check to our wedding videographer. No turning back now!

Videography was a tough thing to tackle for me. As I may have mentioned before, we splurged a bit on our photographer because our wedding photos are incredibly important to me. So we didn't have enough money to quite "splurge" on a videographer—at least not the fancy, cinematic videographers I was finding online.

I couldn't even get recommendations from friends. Despite how many of my friends have gotten married in the past year, almost none of them felt video was worth the money.

And I get it. After all, this money isn't just appearing out of nowhere. But I really, really wanted a videographer (or two) to capture the sounds and motions of our wedding in a way that photography can't quite achieve.

Example: the wedding processional. As the bride, I am the last one to enter the sanctuary. Therefore, I miss almost the entire processional. Um...I don't want to plan my wedding for over two years and then never get to see some of the most special parts!

But I didn't want a cheesy, dated wedding video. You know what I'm talking about. You've seen them. I decided I could give up the extreme cinematography for simple, modern and elegant videography. If I could find it our price range, that is.

After much frustration, our photographer came to the rescue. He recommended a videographer with whom he works frequently—so frequently, in fact, that said videographer could offer us a substantial discount if he hired him to work alongside this photographer. So we set up a meeting. We liked him, we liked his work, and thank goodness, we liked his price tag.

I'll admit it. We're stretching our budget a bit here. But I just can't help it. I really want our wedding to be caught on video. Just like with photos, I want those important moments to be with me for a very long time.

Do you think the memories are worth it?

6 love notes:

  1. I think it's definitely worth it if you can afford it.

We hired our photographer for the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner because we have a HUGE wedding party, and our rehearsal dinner will have 55 people attending. Some people told me we were "wasting" money by doing that and to just have friends take photos, but I really want professional photos of those events! I think we're going to be thrilled with our decision when it's all said and done.

  2. A decision well made I think. We put so much emphasis on photography that we forget that a video can convey just as a much (if not more)! If I could go back I would have made my decisions differently and put some money towards this.

  3. We hired a new guy who did it for free. Which was pretty awesome. And we gave him a pretty substantial tip too. But now we haven't heard from him again. We got married in December and were getting about monthly emails saying that it'd be any day now. Well, the last one came in April and he's not responding to me. SO upset!

  4. We won't be having a videographer because of financial concerns, but as long as you can still pay bills and eat, go for it!

  5. As long as you can afford it then it is DEFINITELY worth it.

  6. I'm with you 100%. Video was important to me as well. We're saving $$ by not getting it edited. For me, it was more about having older family members on film walking, talking, dancing. My cousin regrets not getting video - our Nana passed shortly after his wedding and he wished he had captured moments with her at his wedding - that was enough to convince me.
